As we prepare for an exciting new year, I look back on 2018 with great pride and gratitude, keenly aware that our successes would not have been possible without the exceptional nursing team at Stanford Health Care.

Stanford nurses had an incredible year: presenting at conferences, publishing papers, and advancing the art and science of nursing. But it is our patients who have benefited most from your stellar work. The proof is in our extraordinary achievements in quality.

Earlier this fall, SHC received Vizient’s Quality Leadership Rising Star Award, an honor that recognizes academic medical centers that have achieved significant improvements in quality across a variety of metrics. This recognition by Vizient, the organization that we use to benchmark our performance, is a testament to your hard work and how far we have come in only a few short years. As is our recent top-10 ranking by U.S. News & World Report as one of the best hospitals in the country.

Your dedication to our patients, your tireless pursuit of excellence, and the collaborative spirit that you bring to work every day are part of the fabric that makes SHC a world-class institution. And these qualities are more critical than ever in a health care system that increasingly emphasizes value-based outcomes for patients.

Fundamentally, we understand that the organizations leading this future will be lifted up by coordination, clear communication, and compassion at the bedside far outweigh the contributions of any individual expert. As the heart and soul of our care team at SHC, your importance cannot be overstated.

It is with deep admiration and respect for the vital work that you do that I offer my heartfelt thanks. Thank you to all the nurses of Stanford Health Care for your continued leadership, your partnership, and for the many new contributions I know you will make in the coming year.
