KEY COMPONENTS OF STRUCTURAL EMPOWERMENT:
Caritas Fair: Our goal was to continue our awareness of Jean Watson Caring Science as our professional practice theoretical foundation, raise awareness around the power of the caring-healing arts, the value of self-care, and introduce simple strategies that help us practice lovingkindness with self and others every day!!
Nurse Week Brunch: We had an excellent turn out serving over 1000 Nurses, Nursing Assistants and Unit Secretaries, had over 20 departments contribute with celebratory and/or informational booths, had a rockin’ selfie booth, as well as gave out over 17 awards and close to $8,500 in scholarships & grants. We want to deeply thank all the departments that helped support this event, including Friends of Nursing and the Medical Office for funding our scholarships and grants.
Nurse Week Education Fair & Ice Cream Social: We had over 20 posters submitted to our 1st Annual Nurse Week Poster Presentation. Nurses from across the Stanford enterprise showcased their research, EBP, and educational improvement projects. This was a great opportunity to honor, acknowledge, and communicate how Stanford Nurses are innovating in Nursing practice, improving patient outcomes and transforming healthcare delivery.
Nurse Week Rounding: In honor of Nurses Week, Dale Beatty, DNP, RN, NEA-BC, our CNO & VP of Patient Care Services, rounded all over the Stanford enterprise every day across our inpatient units, periOperative & procedural areas, to our outpatient clinics. Stanford nurses serve in over 184 outpatients clinic throughout Stanford growing network. Stanford Nurses serve the community and public in a wide range of roles and work settings and are on the front-lines of patient care 24/7/365.

Patient and Family Customer Experience
Gastrointestinal (GI) Oncology is a large Cancer Care Program at Stanford Health Care. GI Oncology is comprised of multi-disciplinary specialist teams: surgeons, medical oncologists, and radiation oncologists. This interdisciplinary team led a project to reduce significant delays in scheduling a new patient visit and in being seen by the right cancer specialists.

Level of Care Accommodations
This team's overall goal was to create a systematic and sustainable method to have the IICU level evaluated daily for appropriate use. The results: IICU LOS was decreased by 0.4 days overall in 15 divisions. Cost saving estimates were $1.5 million over 4 months, and the projected realized savings over one year are greater than $4 million.

The Gonda awards are the highest honor a hospital employee can receive. They are given annually to employees who are nominated by fellow coworkers and selected by a committee based on ongoing and outstanding contributions to the hospital.
SHARED LEADERSHIP COUNCIL
The Shared Leadership Council (SLC) at Stanford Health Care (SHC) has been recognized locally, nationally, and globally as a best practice shared governance model. In 2018, SLC has realigned itself with the new ANCC Magnet Application Manual, as well as the organization’s new Integrated and Patient Care Services strategic plans. This culture reset has led to many accomplishments that have impacted clinical practice and the practice environment. SLC’s foundational structure of communication, collaboration, and coordination among all levels of clinicians in all areas and disciplines empowers each other to define, implement, and maintain current practice standards.
At Stanford Health Care, we support and encourage life-long learning through professional growth and continuing education. Learning prepares nurses for professional autonomy and advancement in healthcare. We continually offer opportunities for nurses to grow professionally and personally and to expand their skills in leadership and clinical practice.
CENTER FOR EDUCATION AND PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT
We are extremely proud of the Center for Education and Professional Development (CEPD), which is one of the few nursing continuing education centers in the San Francisco Bay Area offering a variety of clinical specialty, leadership, and
professional development classes, supporting the
educational needs of nurses at Stanford and in the
community. With onsite classrooms and faculty, students have the opportunity for face-to-face communication
with speakers and colleagues in formal and informal group settings. The CEPD, which is another example of Stanford’s strong financial commitment to nursing education, offers multiple clinical specialty topics and communication and professional development programs. Medical Staff Education
INTERNATIONAL VISITORS program
Stanford Nurses collaborated with hospitals around the globe this year, exchanging best practices through hosting over 50 international nurse visitors for a total of 3,792 hours observed. Nurses from Singapore, Japan, Norway, Sweden, China, and Korea flew to Stanford to learn the operations of a Magnet organization.
In the upcoming year, Stanford nursing has already created new partnerships and expects to expand their relationships with more hospitals, hosting more international nurses in 2019.

HEP b FREE
To help our community, this year Stanford Nurses teamed up with SF Hep B Free to volunteer and assist in educating/screening individuals for Hep B.
Hep B Free is an organization aimed at increasing awareness, prevention, screening, and treatment of Hep B and related liver cancer. Together with SF Department of Public Health, Stanford Asian Liver Center, and AsianWeek Foundation, their goal is to turn the San Francisco Bay Area into the first Hep B Free region in the nation.
HIGH SCHOOL CAREER NIGHT
In partnering with Human Resources, Stanford Nursing's Magnet Professional Growth & Development Council hosted their 5th annual Community Career Night with over 250 students and families in attendance.
Food and beverages were provided and education booths set up to provide education. Multiple nurses, interprofessionals, and members of HR volunteered their time and spoke at the event.
This year Stanford Nursing welcomed in 24 high school students from the Stanford Medical Youth Science Program (SMYSP). This program is a five-week residential enrichment program focused on introducing these young adults to a host of health-related careers. These students shadowed nurses and interprofessionals throughout several departments across the enterprise, showcasing our clinical and leadership excellence at all levels and in all roles throughout SHC.
